Traditions...

Tradition has been a big part of our family for as long as I can remember. Some are serious traditions and some are just plain fun.

For instance, today is a fun tradition. We celebrate Boxing Day, the Canadian holiday. With all the hustle and bustle of Christmas, we like to deliver plates of  home baked goodies the day after Christmas. Since things have slowed down, it is nice to make the rounds of friends and deliver these surprises and just visit for a little while.

Other fun traditions include building an elf trap every Christmas Eve. So far, we haven't been able to catch an elf. But we have discovered that they like shiny quarters and chocolate bars! ;)

We always put up numerous trees every year. They range from very formal to just plain fun. The fun tree is decorated with all the keepsakes that the girls have made in school over the years. As well as silly decorations. For instance, there is a pickle that goes on the fun tree. Yes, I said a pickle.

The person that finds the pickle on the tree on Christmas morning, get an extra present from Santa. Nothing elaborate as to cause any hurt feelings, just a fun tradition we like to have. The girls love all the traditions. In fact, this year while decorating the tree, they were bantering back and forth about whose turn it was to put the pickle on.

I was baking cookies and making mulled cider in the kitchen when I over heard this conversation. I had to think for a moment about what kind of tree they were decorating! Then I remembered. :)

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, and best wishes for a happy new year full of blessings!

Love, love, love...

Anna
