Dealing With Unpleasantness

Image -

Or should I say (er) life..Life can be a joy, and it can certainly be difficult. I have experienced many things in my life, some of which might astound you. But this isn't the forum to go into detail, and it isn't even what I want this post to focus on.

The one thing I have learned is to rely on God. Fully, completely, totally. And of course sprinkle humor in with it! :)

Laughter has been my saving grace. The Lord has been compassionate with me, and I have found that laughing at life releases my stress.

I just recently discovered that there are laughter workshops across the country. And they are increasing in popularity. They help people suffering from depression, to people battling cancer. Of course, it's really no surprise since we all know that laughter releases good endorphins in the body.

I read a book that I absolutely loved. It is titled "Laugh Your Way To Grace - Reclaiming the Spiritual Power of Humor". Here is the link on Amazon.

Laugh Your Way To Grace

It really helped me. I think I finished it in a matter of days. I found it at the local library.

Proverbs 17:22 tells us "A happy heart is good medicine and a cheerful mind works healing, but a broken spirit dries up the bones." AMP

There are very serious issues in life, and some of mine are extremely sad, and there is no humor in the situation. However, it always helps to find humor in things where you can.

When feeling like you're in a dark pit, you're not alone. I am proof there is light and joy when you emerge.

Love you bunches,

Boiling and Peeling Eggs

Lately our meals have relied on simplicity! :) The kittens are racing around the kitchen at top speed, and you have to be careful with every step you take (sounds like a Sting song),  and when you open the door to the oven! So lately I have made sandwiches. Chicken salad, egg salad, etc..

There is a common mistake people often make when boiling eggs. They over boil them. When they cook too long is when the yoke turns that unpleasant green color. It doesn't really affect the taste, but it isn't pretty.

Boiling eggs is a snap. Here's how:

1) Place the number of eggs you wish to cook in the pan along with cold water. Make sure the eggs are completely covered with water.

2) Bring the pan to a hard boil.

3) As soon as the water has come to a rolling boil, turn of the burner and cover the pan with the lid.

4) Let the pan sit with the lid on it for 15 minutes. That's it!

*And to peel them with ease, let the eggs cool before peeling them. (After the 15 minutes, I drain the water from the pan, and then fill the pan with cool water. After the eggs have cooled down, you can add ice cubes to speed up the process. If you add the ice cubes immediately, your eggs will crack). So keep this in mind if your boiling them to color at Easter. ;)

If you already have hard boiled eggs in the refrigerator, just set them on the counter for a bit to let them warm slightly before you try to peel them. When they have warmed slightly, the shell will peel right off!

How is the hoop challenge coming for you? Here I am at the park recently.

I couldn't resist sliding down the pole!

All my love,

Summer Smoothies

How are YOU? I'm doing well, keeping really busy with kittens under foot in my kitchen. Makes it hard to get anything done!

With teenagers at home, breakfast tends to be a little tricky since they like to sleep so late. In fact, I made these quite often during the school year too. I sent my girls to school with smoothies which was really handy (and healthy) especially when they were running late.

These are easy and quick to make. And offer a nice change of pace for breakfast (or anytime), especially when it's hot outside.

 Strawberry-Pineapple Smoothie

1 cup frozen strawberries
3/4 cup milk
3/4 cup pineapple juice
1/2 cup vanilla yogurt
2 tablespoons white sugar
6 ice cubes
1 teaspoon wheat germ (optional)

1. Blend the strawberries, milk, pineapple juice, vanilla yogurt, sugar, ice and wheat germ in a blender until smooth. Scrape down the sides of the blender as needed.

Serve immediately

Yield: 2 large servings

Wheat germ is great in this smoothie. It is so healthy and can be used in so many things.

Also, when I find strawberries on sale, I buy several containers and wash, slice, then freeze them. I package them in portions in sandwich bags so I have them on hand, and already measured. :)

There are so many varieties of smoothies I like to make. I will share more of them with you.

I can't believe we are half way thru the hula hoop challenge! I hope it's going well for you too.

The kittens are growing and are making it difficult to cook (or clean) my kitchen. One mamma kitty and four playful babies. :)

Also, today is my youngest daughter's 17th birthday. I am debating between making a cake, or making cupcakes.

Take care sweet friends! Have a wonderful week-end!

The Hula Hooping Challenge - Day 9

Happy Saturday!

Fast forward to day nine! School letting out hasn't slowed my life down one little bit! Although I have starting walking 30+ minutes a day in addition to the hooping! :) I have found that a brisk walk really clears my head.

And in the meantime the kittens are growing so very quickly. They have figured out how to get out of the tub, and enjoy roaming around our kitchen.

I hope you are having a great week-end! We have "Burnin' The Bricks" going on downtown today. It's a pretty cool event. Lots of neat cars and burning rubber. ;)

I couldn't resist this picture before we left the park. (tree hugger) ;)

Talk to you soon!

Day 3 - The Hula Hoop Challenge

Hey peeps! How are you?! I've been doing great. I was able to hoop in my backyard today! Yay!

I've started (trying) to do tricks with the hoop as well. :)

I am really starting to feel the work-out my abs have had the last three days.

Here is a picture of the patriotic hoop I made this last week.

How is the challenge going for you?

Day 2 - The Hula Hoop Challenge

Well, we're on day two of the hula hoop challenge. I have hooped the last two days, however it's just been in my kitchen. My daughter's graduation was this morning, swim party this afternoon, and all-night party this evening. What a week-end to start this challenge! :)

This past Thursday I felt creative and made another hula hoop. I decorated it in a patriotic theme. Red, white and blue stripes! :)

How is the challenge going for you?

Have a great rest of the week-end and I'll see you soon.

Welcome To The 30 Day Hula Hooping Challenge...

Hi friends!

How are you?! I am so glad you are joining me for the 30 minute/30 day hula hooping challenge. The goal is just that, to hula hoop 30 minutes a day for the month of June. But please know that if you can't hoop for 30 minutes a day, anytime you are moving and exercising is wonderful. And I'm so proud of you!

I thought I would journal daily to record my progress. My goals are:

1.) To stay moving.

2.) I am focusing on eating healthier. Lots of grilled foods such as grilled Talapia, grilled vegetables, salads, and fruit!

3.) I want to focus on my abdominal muscles. I really want to get them toned.

4.) Just to have fun! I am going to hula hoop in lots of different places. :)

I will post my progress.

Please keep me updated on how YOU are doing! Leave a comment, or if you are blogging about your 30 day hooping challenge, you may link your post below to share with us. :)

Have fun and happy hooping!
